Yamaha Pacifica 212VQM (Maple Top)

Yamaha aren't always the first brand you think of when buying a guitar, however, they always manage to strike that balance between reliability and affordability. PAC200 Series Building on the popular Pacifica 112V, Pacifica 212 guitars add the striking aesthetics of flame or quilted maple tops with translucent finishes and matching headstocks. With a humbucker and two single-coil pickups, push-...

The Boss DS-1 and it's successors have graced the pedalboards of pro players and amateurs alike. They have featured on iconic records, inspiring us mortals to play with sizzling, raw distortion. In this video I track the development of Boss' orange compact distortion pedals, from their origins in the 1970s to today. I used a Marshall DSL40CR on the clean channel (unless otherwise stated on the ...

The Boss Japanese Era Part 1

Boss have gone through several design phases in the last 45 years. Some of these Japanese made Boss pedals have achieved legendary status over the years and some have come very desirable. In this video I document each of the Boss compact pedals that came out between 1977 and 1982. The retrospective era is 2014 - today. My bad! Cheap vs Expensive: Digitech Hardwired Valve Distortion vs B.K. Tube Driver
Переглядів 3,1 тис.2 місяці тому
The B.K. Butler Tube driver is one of the most revered drive pedals from the 70s. It has been used by Dave Gilmore, Eric Johnson, Billy Gibbons and Joe Satriani. However, even the current units are very expensive. There are some clones and inspired by pedals out there, the most impressive in the affordable range would have to be the Digitech Hardwired Valve Distortion. But how does it compare? ...

The Boss Booster/Preamp is the newest of their famous Waza Craft line. It recreates the preamp tones of the RE 201 Space Echo and the Boss CE-1. This got me to thinking, could I replicate my original Boss Chorus Ensemble by combining the BP-1w and CE-2w? I bought the same cab last January of this yr. I find it too bright in comparison to my H&K 4x12 loaded with greenbacks(top) and v30(bottom). I had an Orange ppc212 with v30s too, which I sold because i find that cab too dark sounding, and now the Joyo which is too bright for me lol. Im using a jcm800 and soldano on these cabs

    Swweet, my CS-2 ... So damn FORMIDABLE, versatile, it has character. I've only got compression while in the studio to compare it to tho ... It gives the right shaping. Might be just me but in your vid, the japanese cs3 has clear and plentiful bottom end; even when you turn the tone up on the malaysia cs3 the bottom doesn't roar at me in the vid. That's the character thing, like the CS2 is gives me (not thru a tone dial tho!) Tasty guit colour you have there (; She's put together well

    I've started looking at all drive pedals as 'amps in boxes' to put through an IR /poweramp. They're preamps. I've got the Boss FBM-1 (and FDR-1), the Mesa V-twin and Zendrive - all excellent - the Mesa is particularly good.

    Nice explanations. I went to buy a wah and while I was there thought I'd maybe try and pair up an envelope filter with the expression pedal I already have instead. Tried out both options and went home with the electro Harmonix blurst. Still getting my head around it all as it's all new but I'm definitely enjoying it. Its bringing out new things. I straight away started hearing planet caravan by black sabbath. Playing the vocal melody on the guitar with the blurst and some stereo delay and reverb sounds great.

    Great video!! I’ve had all but the OD-2r. I still have my OD-1 and OD-3 and always have one of them on my board. The OD-1 sounds best with my Les Paul. The OD-3 is a great utility pedal: clean boost to main overdrive. I tried the OD-1x but was disappointed with its precise overdrive tone as well. It wasn’t flexible enough for me and it didn’t stack well with other pedals. Every combination sounded the same. Love it’s look though!!

    These line of Joyo pedals are not amp sims. They were originally advertised as preamp pedals. I put my Joyo Oxford into an impulse response pedals and it sounds excellent.

      Fret buzz can be caused by one or more frets needing to be filled down or your action being too low. As for staying in tune, if you've stretched the strings then it's likely to be the tuners.

    You could put two 90's FX69s together and at 12 o'clock and they might sound different. There's always slight variables in the parts inside. Tweak and you could make them sound identical. These two would probably have different components inside, but it would be easy to make them sound like each other, no doubt. Probably easy enough to find that mid hump on the 00's one by removing some highs. Should follow this up by trying to make them match tonally.

    Perfect assessment imo. Too bulky/cumbersome to use on my board so it lives in the studio as my secret sauce. It does violin stuff with my tweed Fenders, but it functions as an "extra channel" drive with my Hiwatt.

    I've used this on my board for the last couple years, I love it. In no particular order: Overdrive pedals x 2, flanger, compressor (as preamp mostly) , delay and reverb in the loop, out to 1x12 cab. At church it's miced up, but at the college campus ministry it's just straight amp volume. No problem ever with not being loud enough. Use the 2 channel volume for either clean sound boost or lead boost if needed. Nice review!!

    Those expressions ;) i know what it means if the security of a building has to tighten up, but what does it mean that the OD-1 can 'tighten up' your overdriven amp ? The OD-1 does attenuates the high and low frequencies a bit as well as all overdrives based on a 'tube screamer' circuit (as it is now mostly known although the OD-1 was the first ;)) so may ge tgst is ehst you mean with 'tighten up' ? ;)

    • @JasonAyalaSpare
      @JasonAyalaSpare 13 днів тому

      I use that expression to explain how it cuts excess bass and top end, thereby creating a more focused tone.

  • @coldacre
    @coldacre 14 днів тому

    its an absolute classic which deserves its high price. its basically just another channel of your amp. without walking over to twiddle the volume knob to make your tubes cook more. the ultimate boost pedal. and you'd be mad to sell a V2 in 2024 ;)

    As much as I love this video for being extremely helpful and informative with awesome riffs selected for their usefulness in demonstrating the very-well put together concepts and observations that make for the kind of stellar review that players such as myself are looking for, my favorite thing about it is most definitely how the positioning of your microphone makes it appear as if it were another pedal sitting between the pedals on your shirt. Bravo.

    I find that these are stiff and revealing to play after you're used to more compressed or saggy feeling overdrives, but hearing someone else properly play one of these into a fender deluxe reverb was a head turning moment- probably a 1 out of 5 times I've literally whipped my head around wondering what on earth was that sound? They sound best to me clean but I agree I feel ridiculous using one for that when you can use an EQ or the EP booster.. (though that inverts phase and other weird stuff, I love it). I'm not a huge fan of buffers generally, no more than you need.

    G'day Jason, I've got a few Klon clones, from cheap-cheap to reasonably priced. I wanted a pedal that performs like the original, but knew that I just can't justify the price of the Centaur. If the KTR is made available, I would consider buying one. I still don't think that I can hear the difference between a good clone & the KTR, but I would want to support Mr Finnegan's work. Thanks for a great video. Keep up the good work. Andrew
